Is Fear Dictating Your Career Decision?

When you realize that the job you’re in is not doing that for you, it’s time to risk it and make some changes.

Sometimes, you get so comfortable in the corporate bubble that you don’t realize when it becomes a trap.

When you get your first job straight out of college, you’re elated. You keep getting better at it and earn several promotions and raises with time.

If the growth is as you pictured it, great. But if it’s leaning towards a different direction, what do you do about it?

Measuring success is quite simple — are you happy waking up and doing what you do? If the answer is yes, you’re on the right path to win, but if the answer is no, you’ve got to step up and make some changes.

Let’s look at what stops us from taking that leap into real happiness and success.

  • Steady Income

We’ve all got to pay bills, so money is a significant factor that makes us think twice about leaving a steady job. Even if the responsibilities pile up and we’re caving under the work pressure, you justify it because you’re getting paid.

  • Security & Loyalty

We believe that our jobs are secure because we showcase loyalty towards our employer. But the truth is that companies won’t hesitate to make changes if they have to. The business may take a hit, they may decide to discontinue your division, or economic changes may compel them to downsize.

  • Comfort Zone

You may be grateful for the compensation and benefits you’ve enjoyed over the years and land up being comfortable in that role. Even if it’s not challenging you and leading to professional stagnation, you’re afraid to step out of it.

You have to chalk out a career path that brings you growth and happiness.

When you realize that the job you’re in is not doing that for you, it’s time to risk it and make some changes.

You might want to learn new skills, start a venture of your own, or switch careers entirely.

And even if that means you must start afresh, it’s all right. There are loads of opportunities that you can explore, which will do justice to your skills and lead you to success and satisfaction.

I wish you a great career ahead! Best, Varun Dhingra
